What’s a small moment from your past that you still think about years later?

I’ve been trying to think of a small moment from my past that I still remember. The trouble is, I remember all sorts of things that don’t seem particularly important.

For example, I can remember the smell of a brand-new box of crayons. Especially the big box with the sharpener on the back.

I never understood why anyone would sharpen a crayon. It seemed like a terrible waste of perfectly good crayon.

And then there were those pink erasers that never actually erased anything. They just smeared your mistake around until the paper developed a hole.

I wonder whether children still get excited about school supplies.

I did.

I liked school. Sometimes.

Now that I think about it, I don’t remember what I was supposed to be remembering.

But I do remember those crayons.

Especially the one called Burnt Sienna.

Who was Sienna, and what on earth happened to her?

I used to lust for the big box of crayons with the sharpener. I know why I did then. Today it seems rather foolish.

I think we all wanted that big box! Never mind that we probably used the same six colors. And the other 58 just made me feel rich.

As crayon boxes kept getting larger and larger I had to laugh at some of the manufacturers attempts to find new color names….red-orange/ orange red….

Red-orange and orange-red! Imagine being the person whose entire job was to convince everyone those were two completely different colors.

I guess red-orange was more red than orange.
Orange-red was more orange than red, but still not orange enough to be orange.???? Right?

I’m beginning to think these colors were named by the same people who decided a driveway is where you park and a parkway is where you drive. 😂😂
