I’ve never believed that one song could tell the entire story of a life.

Different songs have found me at different stages. Some brought comfort, others stirred my faith, and a few reminded me that this life is only part of the story.

I Can Only Imagine has always held a special place in my heart. The thought of one day standing before God is something I can hardly put into words.

But today, the song that speaks to me most is It Is Well with My Soul.

Now, I would love to tell you that I have reached a place in life where I can confidently say that everything is well, regardless of what tomorrow brings.

But I haven’t.

I’m still learning.

I don’t know what tomorrow holds. I don’t know what challenges may come, what unexpected turns life may take, or how I will respond when they do.

I believe in God. I trust Him. But I’m also human, and sometimes the unknown has a way of reminding me of that.

Perhaps that’s why this hymn means something different to me today than it did years ago.

It isn’t necessarily a description of where I am.

It’s a reminder of where I want my faith to lead me.

And maybe, someday, I’ll sing those words with a deeper understanding than I have today.

Until then, I’m still learning.

And I believe God is patient with His children.
