What’s something I’ve done that I never thought I could?
Well, now. There’s a question.
If I NEVER THOUGHT I could, then the could have would have been a should have. And if I NEVER THOUGHT I could have, would I have done it?
You see my problem?
There’s a difference between NEVER THOUGHT you could do something and never believing you could do it.
“NO, MA’AMS. NO, SIRS!”
Those are two entirely different desserts.
Jell-O is not crème brûlée.
NEVER THOUGHT is plain old Jell-O. Jiggly and empty. Nothing going on upstairs. Your brain was completely blank. The thought never even showed up for dinner.
“Never believed,” on the other hand, is crème brûlée. There’s something beneath that hardened surface. Doubt, perhaps. Fear. A little hesitation. At least somebody was home when the thought knocked.
But if the thought never occurred to me in the first place, how was I supposed to know I couldn’t do it?
And more importantly, how am I supposed to remember never thinking about it?
I came here to answer a simple question.
Now I’m arguing with dessert.
And no offense to whoever made the Jell-O.
