Which relationship has taught you the most about yourself?

The reflection of water only tells the truth when it is still.

Noise distorts the reflection, movement distorts it, and throw a stone into the water and the whole picture fractures. The trees bend, colors scatter, and the familiar becomes unrecognizable. Yet nothing on the shore has changed. Only the reflection.

Perhaps that is why stillness teaches us so much about ourselves.

Time doesn’t necessarily change the truth. Sometimes it simply allows the water to settle.

Look at the trees. They are already changing. Green has surrendered to gold. Gold is giving way to amber and red. Yet the water reflects them exactly where they are—not where they were in summer, not where they’ll be in winter.

There is something beautifully unforgiving about that.

Not every season requires fixing. Not every flaw requires hiding. Not every failure needs to be hurried past before we have understood what it came to teach us.

Perhaps the point of reflection was never to keep us looking at the water. It was to understand who we would be when we finally walked away.
