The coffee pot doesn’t ask permission to track my activity.

The rooster requires neither Wi-Fi nor a subscription—and unfortunately has no mute button.

The dogs don’t need location services to find me.

A good book has never asked me to accept cookies.

And the people I love don’t require an update before I can interact with them.

Meanwhile, the phone is over there vibrating itself into a nervous breakdown because somebody liked something, something shipped, something is trending, somebody posted, somebody emailed, and apparently I haven’t closed enough rings today.

So my favorite app is sunscreen.

I apply it every morning.
