If someone had asked me yesterday which animal I’d want to be, I probably would have answered a panda.

Peaceful. Unhurried. Completely unbothered.

I’ve watched them fall out of trees, tumble down hills, and lose their balance more times than I can count. Yet I’ve never seen one stop to feel sorry for itself. It simply gets back up and continues being a panda.

Then I discovered that God had already chosen a different teacher for me.

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise.”
— Proverbs 6:6

I’ll admit, I had never really noticed that verse before. When I finally did, I found myself asking a simple question: Why the ant?

Instead of a majestic lion or a soaring eagle, God pointed to a creature most of us would instinctively brush away from the picnic table. Of all the creatures He could have chosen to model wisdom, He chose one of the smallest on earth.

That surprised me.

But maybe that’s the point. God’s greatest lessons aren’t always found in the biggest, strongest, or most admired. Sometimes they’re hidden in the creatures we overlook. Sometimes they’re found right beneath our feet—even the ones we’d rather not have crawling across our picnic table.

The next time I see an ant, I’ll definitely think of Proverbs 6. I’ll remember that big wisdom can come in tiny packages.

Then… I’ll kindly escort it away.
