Daily writing prompt
How do you want to retire?

I’ve asked myself how I wish to retire—
and instantly found myself blinking at the question.

And still… the answer does not come.

The world, of course, had no hesitation.
It offered a checklist.
A finish line marked by dollar signs,
pastel oceans,
smiling stock-photo couples,
timelines, calculators, and due dates for freedom.

But my soul craves something different.

Because I’m not thinking about how I want to stop working—
I’m thinking about how I want to keep living.

If retirement is a hymn,
maybe I’m still in the verse between verses.

Scripture doesn’t give us a chapter on retirement.
Not in the way we might hope.
But it does give us something far richer:
pauses.

God gave His people moments to stop and rest.
Moments of stillness beautifully woven into the week—
not waiting at the end of the journey,
but walking with us alongside the living.

That’s why God breathed Sabbath into creation
before labor ever wore us out.
Day seven wasn’t a reward.
It was a gift.

And in truth?
I think I may already be retired
in the ways that matter most:

Joy.
Peace.
Grace.
