Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

So, I’d have to say…
the oldest thing I’m wearing today is my smile—wide, wouldn’t you say?

She shows up first, knowing her place.
Before my feet find the floor, before the mirror judges, before I pick who I’ll be today.
She’s the garment I never folded, never hung—just always worn.
Sometimes bright, sometimes borrowed.
Sometimes stitched with threads no one sees but Him.

She changes, you know.
The Happy Smile is loose and easy,
worn best on slow Sundays
and in the presence of the birds chirping on a Sunday morning—
when peace smells like toast and sounds like grace.

The Mischievous Smile? She’s slanted, knowing,
paired with raised brows and late-night laughter,
a wink in disguise.

The Polite Smile—pressed and buttoned,
the one I wear to keep the peace,
even when I’d rather wear silence.

Then there’s The Brave Smile
tailored for hard days, held together by threads of scripture,
shoulders back, lips steady,
eyes whispering I’m still here.

And on weary nights,
The Tired Smile lingers—wrinkled but present,
worn not for show but survival.

So yes…
the oldest thing I’m wearing today is my smile—
and she wears me just the same.
